The way you breathe
Is the way you think.
The way you think
Is the way you live.
Put it together and the way you are breathing IS the way you are living.
How is that working for you??
[ are you sure?? ]
as Resmaa Menakem put it:
Our bodies have a form of knowledge that is different from our cognitive brains. This knowledge is typically experienced as a felt sense of constriction or expansion, pain or ease, energy or numbness. Often this knowledge is stored in our bodies as wordless stories about what is safe and what is dangerous. . . .
The body is where we live. It’s where we fear, hope, and react. It’s where we constrict and relax. And what the body most cares about are safety and survival. When something happens to the body that is too much, too fast, or too soon, it overwhelms the body and can create trauma. . . .
And that impact on our body show up in our breath.
It shows up the way we are able to breathe - we can’t breathe a full natural breath when our body is constricted by the things it is carrying for us.
And you cant think or experience life freely, when your breath is constricted and your body constrained preoccupied with the past that it is carrying for you.
Read that again: the PAST that your body is carrying for you.
It’s not the present, it’s not the future, and yet when the past is being carried in your body and on your breath, your thoughts will also be directed towards the past. And you will keep recreating the past in ways big and small.
Seeing the same problems - because you are looking for them.
Making the same assumptions and conclusions.
Making the same choices, choosing from within the same parameters.
With an attentive eye, I can see this in the way you are breathing.
Listening, I can hear your past in your words, not in the stories as much as in the ways the stories are told, revealing the imprints that you are still carrying - embodying.
This is the way you are thinking - breathing - living.
To create change, and have it stick. It’s not a weekend of pumped up ra- ra. It’s not 10 days of gratitude or wishful thinking. It’s positive thinking - that will just amp your negative mind, later of not sooner and you dont do the deep digging.
We cant wish what we have been carrying out of our bodies.
We can let it go.
We CAN shift our breath to shift our thoughts and shift that ‘weight’, to integrate the past and move forward freely, open.
Rebirthing Breathwork with a trained practitioner is a sensitive somatic therapy that bridges the (illusory) body-mind divide and supports you to unravel the inner stories and clear out the cobwebs that have been crowding your mind and thought processes.
So that you breathe differently,
So you can think differently
So you can live, differently.
